FED:SA's Mike Rann praises mental health effort

South Australian Premier MIKE RANN says there's been a terrific discussion about future
mental health reform at today's COAG meeting in Canberra, but concedes a lot more work
needs to be done.

He says state and territory leaders have been briefed by invited experts, who say a
one-size fits all approach doesn't work.

He says while more acute beds are not needed, the leaders have been told intermediate
care beds and community-based mental health care are the answer.

They've also agreed for a heightened focus on young people and mental health issues
for Australia's indigenous community.
